Today’s mass marketing tactics
and mega existences of ‘celebrities’ has lead to the superstar being corrupted,
ambiguous and somewhat rudimentary. What it means to be a real superstar is
almost obsolete because society has forgotten its true meaning. But not for
long though.
adidas Originals is
re-launching one of their most iconic shoes – the Superstar. First introduced
in 1969, the shoe became an instant hit and saw itself move seamlessly between
sport and sidewalks. The Superstar has seen great moments including the move
from the basketball court to become the official footwear selection in the 80s
New York hip-hop scene.
Now, through the launch of a 90
second film, directed by Karim Huu Do and featuring
superstars Pharrell Williams, David Beckham and Damian Lillard, adidas Originals
is bringing this iconic shoe back to question everyone’s current concept of the
superstar.
“It’s not about the number of
views, likes or shares…”
- Pharrell Williams
Whilst we all have our
independent perspectives on superstardom, one thing’s for sure – the adidas
Originals Superstar is a whole lot of stardom, proven through time.
Look
out for the sneakers at an adidas Originals store near you. Dropping soon.
