Day 1 of SA Menswear Week
(SAMW) for me turned out to be cool, enough. Started off rather punk-ish and
went into a spiritual journey followed on by adolescence and closed off on some
modern African vibes with a tribute to great local artists. Terrible lighting,
awkward spacing and shows running an hour and more late were only saved by the
fact that practically all the designers of the night delivered. Here is a
favourite from Wednesday, 3 February 2016:
Dicker
Dicker’s AW16 collection was a
canvas of black with punches of colour giving so much attitude – totally right
up my alley. Staying on trend, the brand had jumpers with “DICKer” and “Suck my
dicker” splattered over them. The master item of the collection was definitely
the full-on goatskin jacket and pants – so on point. Overall, the collection
will need some looks to be refined for retailed, but there messaging was there:
fresh punk for AW with dashes of hot colour and attitude. It’s not for the
faint hearted and should you feel the need to give the oceans some ‘snap-snap’,
go ahead because those scuba looks are totes the new surf.
