The Southern
Guild recently opened its doors to its new home at the V&A Waterfront’s
Silo District. As Africa’s only design gallery representing collectible,
limited-edition work from the continent, this caused for a bit of a celebration
to be hosted, inviting patrons, media and general socialites to come and
experience the space, view the amazing creative work and get to meet some of
the designers behind these magnificent pieces.
The GUILD also
offers a space for retail therapy. There was a collaborative effort between
Southern Guild and some of the country’s top emerging and young designers. This
led to a variety of fashion, accessory and decor pieces being curated and
created. What this means is, if you’re not yet ready to shop collectible
designer art, you can buy yourself a set of designer homeware for your studio
apartment on the coast. Not quite there yet but close enough.
If you happen
to be there already, then you would love to grab some of the amazing
collectibles noted. There were beautiful works from faves such as Andile
Dyalvane, Porky Hefer and Cheick Diallo.
Of course, what’s
a designer art party without fabulous people to air kiss and tug. The venue was
filled with local artists, decor magazine editors, lifestyle bloggers and
general all genuinely cool and stylish people.
So perhaps the
vibe won’t be the same when you pop around, but it’s definitely worth a visit.
Get yourself a dose of designer creativity from Africa and bask in the glory
that is our talent.
Visit Southern
Guild Gallery, GUILD, 5B, Silo 5, V&A Waterfront: Monday – Friday between
