MBFWCT Special Report: Now You Can Eat The Fashion Designer's Collections

Dear Diary,

Tonight, well, this evening, I embark on a journey that is a first for me. I will be attending the official launch of Mercedes-Benz fashion Week Cape Town. The exclusive event being held at the One&Only's, Nobu. The restaurant tonight will be pampering us with an exquisite tasting of the specially tailored menu developed for MBFWCT.

The event is in conjunction with City of Cape Town, as well, which obviously means that some heavyweights will be present at this event. No pressure. I mean, really now, I'm sure I can handle it. As long as I don't do or say anything embarrassing I should be okay. I'm very excited, I must admit. It's going to be an honour and great experience to mingle with people from the industry who are way more knowledgeable than I am and definitely have a better wardrobe.

Which brings me to the next point. What am I going to wear? I don't want to over dress and simultaneously I don't want to under dress. There's nothing more underwhelming than a fashion commentator who looks like he or she needs some styling advice themselves.

Gosh. I think I just broke into a sweat.

Okay, let me calm down and think this through in simple terms. The aim is not to sweat, is that not what the youth of today say? So there's no time to go shopping now. I'm going to have to make do with my current rail of clothing. I guess staying neutral with a touch of chic class should get me looked at with warm expressions. The last thing I need to do is cause people to lose their appetite on the sight of my attire. Maybe I should just wear all black. It usually works when you don't know what else to wear.

Anyway, back to the event.

Some fashion designers are expected to be present, so I guess this will be as good a time as any to get some quotes and comments on their own personal build-ups to #MBFWCT, and also maybe get a sneak peak into what to expect from them. Challenge there though is how do you approach a fashion designer and start chatting to them? This is really becoming more of a workout than anything else. Do I go in for a hug and air kiss when we get introduced to each other? Do I shake hands? What if my hands are sweaty?

Argh! This is not helping. Let me just cut my loses and pretend like I'm going to dinner with friends. Surely then I won't act the fool. Okay, that's the game plan. Tonight, I will be attending a function with friends and acquaintances. It's going to be great and I'm going to look half decent.

PS Wish me luck!

Lotsa nervous love,
RM
