In 10 days time,
Cape Town and the world over will witness what some will most likely consider
to be one of the most highly anticipated fashion weeks on the south of the
equator on the continent of Africa. Mercedes-Benz (MB), along with African
Fashion International (AFI), with the publicity assistance of Communications
Services Africa
(CSA) will be bringing in the hotness during the chill of winter, with the
presentation of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town (MBFWCT) showcase.
It is set to be
an iconic extravaganza, bumper packed with uber fashionable people expecting to
see some fashion-forward collections for the Spring Summer 2012/13 season. For
some of you who might not be aware, AFI and MB sealed the deal a little earlier
this year, on having MB become the title sponsor for not only the Cape Town
fashion week platform, but for Joburg and the Africa fashion week platforms
too. Meaning, in 2012, the official platforms are now passionately titled:
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg; Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town and
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa.

A mouth full I
know. But it has such a sexy ring to it. And even more so, it simply states
that the South African platforms have been recognized by the international
brand as making the cut for international standards of hosting fashion weeks in
their respective cities and countries. Now, we’re in the ranks of the likes of
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Paris and even
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm. I mean really now, who could possibly
complain about swimming in the same pond as those guys.
Here at
Renaissance Men, we’ve made every effort to make sure we can get you covered.
Well, we’ll get the fashion week covered and make sure you’re not missing out
on a thing. Over the next 14 days, we will be reporting on everything and
anything that is #MBFWCT. Which reminds me, if you’re on Twitter, make sure you’re following
the hashtag #MBFWCT for all your fashion week news updates, straight from the
orginsers. Also make sure you’re following @_RenaissanceMen for news on fresh posts and stylish
behind-the-scenes info.
Just to give you
a taste of what’s in store and so you know just how serious I am about this…
Last week I
popped into the CSA offices in the De Waterkant. The team, hard at work, was
happy to accommodate me for a few minutes and just give me some heads up on
what’s coming this week, before the shows kick in next week. There were hints
of off-site locations, meaning, a show or two will be held somewhere else, and
not at the official #MBFWCT venue, the Cape Town International Convention
Centre (CTICC). There’s an official media launch planned for one of the
evenings this week and the Designer Bible is en route. The designer bible is
literally the all-you-need-to-know guide to the designers participating at this
year’s showcase, which also includes a concept breakdown of their inspiration
for the collections they have created for #MBFWCT Spring Summer 2013.

I mean, in all
honesty, I’m getting light-headed just thinking about all the electricity in
the air at the moment. Printed marketing material is also soon to be launched
and there will definitely be more on the digital platforms for us consumers to
eat and weep.
All I can say
is, I’m game. I’m getting my hair did and putting on my freak’em suit.
Also to watch
out for: We’re going to be doing some behind the scenes interviews with
designers, in their studios, and hopefully some twitterviews too.
Just cross your
fingers I get media accreditation to all the shows, so you don’t miss a single
review.
