31 days to go until South
Africa’s most glamorous polo event on its annual social calendar, the VeuveClicquot Masters Polo 2013. In its third year running, the event will be hosted
Saturday 23rd February at the beautiful Val de Vie Estate just
outside Cape Town.
Expected to draw in crowds of
more than 1200 guests this year, the premium event boasts a guest list of
celebrities, fashionable socialites, avid polo lovers and of course, the
dazzling elite. It’s been years upon years that I have been eyeing this event
and this year will be testament to whether or not I crack the nod and make things
happen (or at least the universe).
As with any ‘fashion’ event,
the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo encourages its attendees to put on their best
hats and exhibit their best outfits for the year. With a range of designers to
choose from one expects that competition will be tough to spot who really comes
out tops as the best dressed. Jeannie D and Jo Ann Strauss are seasoned fashion
veterans and I’m expecting some killer threads from them. But as for the guys,
well, I don’t foresee anything special and I’m hoping to be surprised, made
speechless and blown away.
The day usually requires gents
to be seen in a summer suit, hopefully there will be some playing with colour,
fabrics and cuts to create some excitement. The only restriction one should
consider is the fact that you’re ‘expected’ to wear a suit. As to it’s colour,
shape, fabric and details – that’s entirely yours to individualize.
Anyway, more about that later.
