I’m not ready to
be a philanthropist, as such. I don’t earn millions and I’m not from a wealthy
family that owns enough estates to afford such a lifestyle, however, I
thoroughly enjoy the work being done by UCT Rag for SHAWCO. More so because in
recent years they’ve exposed me to charitable events that fit my lifestyle, so
participation does not feel forced and I can then be a philanthropist
vicariously through others and their means.
This time
around, UCT Rag hosted a benefit fashion show on the famous Jameson Hall
stairs. Craig Port was one of three featured brands on the night, along with
Gavin Rajah and Legit. Set against the glimmering lights of the city, the show
presented well thought-through collections by the designers and brand and gave
Craig Port the opportunity to highlight trends within his menswear labels Lucky
Luke and Scorpio.
SHAWCO, the
beneficiary of the evening, is one of South Africa’s largest student volunteer
organisations, which run health, welfare and educational projects in
under-resourced communities in Cape Town and surrounding areas.
Here’s to another
successful ‘fashion’ event in aid of a good cause. Till the next!
