The stage is set for top designers
from 15 cities on the continent to showcase their trends for the coming season,
at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg SS 2016. From the 10th-13th August
all eyes will be firmly on Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton City, for the
inaugural MBFWJ16 Spring/Summer collection.
“While day one is for fashion
newcomers, day two will reveal some of the legends of the industry,” says Jan
Malan, production director of MBFWJ16. “These household names will set the
fashion scene for the next few months and dictate what the local trends will
be.”
The first show of the evening is the
real Jenni Button with her Philosophy label. As a world-renowned and respected
designer, Jenni pays tribute to her African roots when she brings her signature
luxurious style to the catwalk.
A woman that hardly needs
introduction is Marianne Fassler – a South African fashion icon. As a fearless
fashionista she will undoubtedly wow the Joburg audience with her Afrocentric
designs, which celebrate both her country and her continent.
It’s a family affair when Stefania
Morland and daughter Shana show off their trendy designs to a style hungry
crowd. As award-winning designers in their own right, together they have built
a successful brand that dresses the stars.
Rounding off a hugely impressive
line-up of celebrated designers is Nhlanhla Nciza, famed singer-songwriter for
one of South Africa’s favourite local bands Mafikizolo. However, she’s been
making waves in the fashion industry with her vibrant NN Vintage collection. Be
prepared for a dazzling production by a woman who knows show business.
“It’s a powerful all-woman affair for
our second day on the runway and, with these doyennes of fashion, our audience
can expect a smooth, professional show, with some red-hot runway designs,” says
Malan.
With luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz as headline sponsor, African Fashion
International (AFI) will be hosting this fashion extravaganza and focusing the
world’s attention firmly on African design. AFI is the gateway to refined
African fashion and is committed to showcasing the very best designers and
creative talent from the continent.
